JOHN MCCARTHY LANDSCAPE PHOTOGRAPHY
Born near Glasgow in 1960, John became interested in photography while studying design at Glasgow College of Building and Printing.  After graduating, he moved from Scotland to England, living variously in London, Leeds and latterly Leicester, where he now lives with his wife and their assorted pack of border collies. In between his frequent trips to the north west highlands of Scotland, where the majority of the photographs on the site were taken, he  runs his own design and project management business.
It is a curious fact that Scotland exerts an almost magnetic pull on those of her countrymen who move elsewhere. Over the years John has answered this call again and again, returning to the rugged and remote highlands to develop his talent for landscape photography, while at the same time nurturing a deep and abiding love for the last truly wild places in Britain. John has built up an impressive body of work over this period,  some of which you can see here in the following pages.

From April 2008 a selection of  John’s work will be on display in a new gallery  located in the highlands close to the areas where the majority of his images were taken.

Picture Shack’ is a small gallery situated on the scenically stunning West coast of Scotland, in the fishing village of Lochinver.

Previously located in the tiny, nearby settlement of Achiltibuie, it has always been popular with the many visitors drawn to the area by the spectacular scenery, wildlife and walking opportunities.

The gallery does a brisk trade selling  original paintings, limited edition prints and cards, along with works by selected other artists with a connection to the area.
